Several configurations must be set up on machines for new users of Oracle Hyperion. Otherwise errors may occur. A common issue is for queries in the Smart View Excel Add-In to time out. The exact Smart View timeout error message will vary depending on your version of Smart View:
The request timed out. Contact your administrator to increase netRetryCount and netRetryInterval.
The request timed out. Contact your Smart View client system administrator to extend your Windows Internet Explorer time out settings (ReceiveTimeout, KeepAliveTimeout, and ServerInfoTimeout).
The error will prevent queries in Smart View from completing successfully, although the operation may continue running on the server. The Smart View Add-in communicates with the server through HTTP/XML. It is affected by timeout thresholds governed by Internet Explorer.
If you encounter the timeout in a short span (e.g. 30 seconds), you need to increase the timeout thresholds. Here are registry settings to apply:
