At a client using Hyperion EPM 220.127.116.11, we wanted to initialize the ‘User Point of View – Preview’ preference setting to ‘On’ in Hyperion Financial Reporting for all users. This option, which is found in ‘Workspace’ > ‘File’ > ‘Preferences’, allows the User Point of View to be prompted to the users as they run reports.
Oracle provides a tool ‘FRConfig.cmd’ which has a setting ‘com.hyperion.reporting.HRPrefs.previewuserpov’ that can be used to set the default to ‘On’. The following Oracle Support KB article provides instructions. The described bug appears to be fixed, but we found this setting only rolls out the preference to new users when they are first provisioned.
Financial Reporting – Problem Defining Default Value For “Preview User Pov” (Doc ID 1272174.1)
To modify this option for existing users, we ran the following SQL Query.
As a general disclaimer, modifying the SQL backend tables is not recommended, not supported by Oracle, not warrantied by Bakerfield, (and potentially hazardous to your health). You may totally mess up everything… While we are joking about the potential health risk, we are serious about everything else. Please proceed at your own risk.
- Ensure that you have a complete backup including the relational database, Hyperion artifacts, etc.
- Perform the following in your DEV environment before executing in your PROD environment.
- Run the following SQL query against the relational database that was provisioned for Hyperion Reporting and Analysis (from a user that has sufficient UPDATE database rights):
UPDATE v8_prop_value SET VALUE0 = '1' WHERE VALUE0 = '2' AND PROP_NAME = 'com.hyperion.reporting.HRPrefs.previewuserpov';
The settings will take effect immediately (no restart required). Any users that are currently logged in to Workspace will need to relogin for the settings to take effect.
