In this first post of our new Smart View Troubleshooting series, we will explore the Smart View error, “An error has occurred in the script on this page”.
We recently ran into the above error on an 22.214.171.124 implementation, along with: “object doesn’t support property or method” when connecting to a Hyperion Financial Report in Smart View.
The cause of this error is related to the back-end communications between Hyperion Financial Reporting and Hyperion’s Reporting and Analysis framework services. This mechanism is reliant on a compatible version of Internet Explorer installed on the user’s machine. If the version of IE is incompatible with the Hyperion version installed, the above error can be one of the symptoms.
The most direct resolution to this is to downgrade IE to an earlier release compatible with the version of Hyperion installed. The process to roll Internet Explorer back to an earlier release can take 30 minutes or more. It is recommended to do this only when the machine can be taken offline for the duration of the software restore.
To confirm software compatibility for a specific implementation, use Oracle’s EPM System Certification Matrix. If the user’s machine previously had a compatible version of IE installed, simply remove the update and the previous version of IE will be reinstalled automatically. If the user’s machine came preinstalled with an updated version, skip to method 2 below.
To remove installed updates, proceed to the Windows control panel
From the Programs and Features page, select ‘View installed updates
Select the line corresponding to internet explorer updates
Then, follow through the prompts and restart the computer as needed.
If the machine was not upgraded from an earlier version of IE, the most direct way to rollback to a previous release is to download a compatible version of IE to the user’s machine. In this instance, IE 8 can be downloaded directly from Microsoft here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/internet-explorer-8-details.aspx
First, use the Add or Remove Programs control panel outlined in Method 1 to remove any existing versions of internet explorer. Then, using the download link above, follow the prompts to download the version needed. The download should complete and prompt user to install. Once IE is installed, restart the user’s computer before testing again.
