Essbase Error 1270076 will occur when trying to start an Essbase application via the Essbase Administration Console (EAS) client. The application fails to start, and the following error appears:
There are multiple potential causes that might prevent Essbase Applications from starting (e.g. a corrupt database, a runaway application ESSVR process, etc.) However, in this case, the EAS message window below offered the following details as a clue:
Error 1270076 loading application:
[Day]*[Month]*[Date]*[Time]*[Year]*Local*[APP]***5440*Error*(1270076)*Failed to open file *[D:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem\EssbaseServer\essbaseserver1\hybrid\\APP\metadata\ess00001.dat]*: a system file error occurred. Please see application log for details
Essbase error 1270076 is caused by a corrupted set of metadata reference and log files. These files can be found at the path indicated in the error log:
These files can become corrupted in a number of ways. For example, an unexpected server shutdown or network failure in a distributed environment can cause these files to become unusable. In some instances, the files will require services shut down, user log out, or server restart to enable modification.
One identified, resolving Essbase Error 1270076 is a straightforward three-step process:
- Stop the Essbase OPMN Service
- Delete (or rename) the folder MIDDLEWAREHOME\user_projects\epmsystem1\EssbaseServer\essbaseserver1\hybrid\APP*
- Restart the Essbase OPMN Service
*Note that the entire [APP] directory should be removed from the above path, not only the file indicated in the error log. This will enable the application to reinitialize these files when the application is started next. If this error occurred in a production environment, it may also be a good idea to restore Planning metadata and Essbase data from the most recent backup.
